Dylex Ltd. (Fairweather)
Dylex Limited
operates over 350 stores across Canada. Their retail divisions
included BiWay, a convenient
general merchandise discount chain, and the well-known
specialty women’s apparel banner-Fairweather.
Internal business restructuring
included the relocation to new premises for the Fairweather administrative
offices. This allowed for an opportunity
to
introduce an environment supportive of teamwork and collaboration. It
was also timely for a new image, a ‘cool’ working environment,
reflective of their industry sector.
POI and Steelcase collaborated on
the Activity Based Planning process to enable Fairweather personnel
new ways to work, whether collaboratively
or individually.
Answer systems furnishings with low panel heights and informal meeting/mobile
areas enhance communication and teamwork for this organization. There
are
few private, dedicated workspaces; meeting rooms and enclaves provide
privacy and
a place for uninterrupted work when required. Access to electronic
tools and equipment was simplified by means of desk height power
and strategically
located
printers and other shared equipment.
Feedback from the end-users is
unanimous – all are very happy with their
new work environment. The workplace is integral in supporting the
organization’s
goals and objectives.
