Redefining the Future of Learning at George Brown Polytechnic’s Limberlost Place
When George Brown Polytechnic set out to create its new Limberlost Place at 185 Queens Quay East, the vision was clear: design a space that supports how people learn, collaborate, and grow in a changing world. Partnering with Moriyama Teshima Architects, PCL, Steelcase, and POI, the project team worked seamlessly to deliver a sustainable, human-centred environment that embodies innovation, inclusivity, and flexibility.
POI’s role extended far beyond furniture supply. Acting as a trusted collaborator, POI fully integrated with the college’s design and construction partners to deliver tailored solutions across classrooms, event spaces, common areas, and wellness zones. Every detail – from the custom veneer furniture and leather accents to the large-scale area rugs and modular elements – were selected to support the needs of students and educators alike.
Signature features include Spec’s custom drafting tables, mobile event furniture, and handcrafted wood seating that complement the warmth of the architectural finishes. Specialty spaces such as the Indigenous learning area highlight Group Work tables, Move chairs, Circa soft seating, and Flex podiums, reflecting George Brown’s commitment to cultural inclusivity.
With a deep focus on sustainability and design cohesion, Limberlost Place stands as an inspiring example of what the “Future of Work and Learning” can be – where education and community meet through thoughtful, enduring design.
