Amanda defines her role as a storyteller. “I spend a lot of my time making sure the POI story is understood and helping ensure people have an understanding of what we do so we can help them the best we can,” she explains. Joining POI was a natural fit, aligning her love for words with an organization that stands by its values and long history. “It makes creating content and telling our story so much fun.”
Copywriting is at the core of Amanda’s responsibilities, but she emphasizes the collective nature of her work. “Marketing is such a broad term, and while the biggest part of my role is writing, I’m never working in isolation,” she says. “Our team works together to create content that reflects POI’s voice and supports the needs of the business.” From collaborating on RFPs and designing social media campaigns to brainstorming creative approaches for events and presentations, Amanda ensures that every piece of marketing material is aligned with the company’s goals.
The ever-changing nature of marketing keeps Amanda passionate about her work. “Marketing is never stagnant,” she says. “Trends change, and the way we communicate needs to stay interesting.” For Amanda, staying updated involves subscribing to industry newsletters, observing trends across multiple platforms, and continuously testing new approaches. “Not every trend is applicable to POI, but similar elements can often be adapted to our specific needs.”
Collaboration is a cornerstone of Amanda’s role, both within the marketing team and across departments. “Marketing interacts with so many teams at POI,” she explains. “We work together on collateral, events, and presentations to ensure that the brand is cohesive across the board. Marketing’s collaboration is also broad, depending on the political landscape, vendor relationships, and how we tell the stories required in all forms across the entire company.”
For those aspiring to a career in marketing, Amanda’s advice is simple: stay open to possibilities. “Be open to seeing where marketing takes you,” she advises. “The work evolves regularly, and you can set yourself up for success by staying flexible.”
